A Canadian producer has expressed eagerness in learning more about Persian poetry and art through documentaries made by Iranian filmmakers.
Dorota Lech is Industry Programmer at Hot Docs Forum, North America's largest documentary festival, where she produces The Hot Docs Forum, a public pitching event aimed at garnering financing and co-productions for international documentaries
“I have seen some poetic and beautiful documentaries from Iran before. You have this incredible history of poetry and art, so I am very interested to learn more about that from the documentaries I watch,” she said in a recent interview.
Organizers of the Cinema Verite festival currently underway in the Iranian capital city of Tehran invited Lech to the event, where she currently is located.
“I am here just to experience the festival and to see the films. It helps a lot. I have seen so many films from Iran. There are so many submissions from Iran but sometimes you can’t understand the place, the people and the films until you see how it is in person. It is like research. It just helps understanding,” she highlighted.
Dorota also expressed her luck in having been invited to the festival in Tehran’s Charsu Cineplex.
She is also the doc conference programmer and a programming associate at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
The Documentary and Experimental Film Center is the organizer of the Cinema Verite festival, which opened on December 10 and will run until December 17.
